I am out on a limb here, looking for feedback about dates to recommend for the 2008 title meeting.
This year was a shocker in terms of getting a date with March very full in Victoria, the Southern CLassic and AUs. Titles in Oct and November usually. I have had suggestions of April or early August as potential new time zones. The HMRAV originally chose March becaus ein Vic. it was fairly quite betwwen the Island CLassic at the ned of Jan.and Historic Winton in May.
What do others think please?

John, The only input I can give you is that we in WA have applied for the 2008 Nationals and if successful in that we would run them late in the year ie Oct. Nov. so as to almost guarantee good weather as well as avoiding as much as possible Stae Championships etc elsewhere. the only meeting we have to be aware of is the Southern Classic but we would talk to you about that so we avoided clashing as best we could.
We certainly do need a coordinated approach to fixturing major events though. I doubt you would get much cooperation from the major modern events, you can but try.
On another subject altogether do you know of any competitive Period 4 outfits for sale, I have decided that the Suzuki isnt going to cut it at Eastern Creek or Phillip Island next year so may as well get into something better.
Good luck

Alan, can you start a topic elsewhere about the outfit purchase I belive it is important to keep topics focussed, otherwise the original thread wanders too much.

oops sorry John. I didnt think a question that you could have just answered and that would have been the end of it would hurt. I will try to behave in future.

Hi John,

The reason we did not get to the Vic titles this year is because we were counting on a March date something similar to last year and when it suddenly jumped forward to February there was no hope.
I guess what I am saying here is that consistent dates are important regardless of when that date is. It is probably not so bad for those who just have to drive around the corner but for those who have to travel it means organising time off work as well as saving up. Craig and I wanted to do the Vic Titles this year as well (I mean, we got a second place last year and had a total ball so why wouldn't we do it again???) but had allocated March to it. I could not rearrange my preparation time and time off work in order to accommodate the changed dates.

So, while I completely understand the problems with competing with the modern events lets try and get all historic events organisers to talk to each other and co-ordinate the events and then try to keep them stable at or near those dates. This will avoid problems like Craig and I had this year as well clashes like a couple of years ago with the Master of Mac Park and the Southern Classic.

Now I also know that it is a nightmare organising events like this and that it is easy for me to sit back and make suggestions but you asked what the problem was and for me this is a part of it.

We were busted big time with dtaes, even finally sttling on March 10 / 11 to find two days later the Barry sheene memorila was on thesame date.
Now I am getting support for April, but with Easter swing arond and the Mac Park Easter parade that may be curly.

Has there been any further developments in a date for this meeting in 2008?
It would be good to be able to promote to all the riders at the C/ships in October.
