New date 24 / 25 October at Broadford will give everybody a good 7 weeks after the National Titles to get ready.

Probably a big call but from a WA and probably a SA perspective the week after the nationals would have been a better option, we could have made our way back to Broadford on our way home

We have found that riders do not want the events close together in case something goes wrong or so they can get an extra leave pass. |

Yep we are OK and we are trying to meet the needs of as many people as possible as well as fit in with all the other racing clubs and circuits in Victoria and as far as we can try to help. In fact we shifted from 3 / 4 Octobe rto stop a clash with the SA meetings. WE cannot go into September because Broadford is used for other clubs events.
We constantly have to move to keep a distance bewteen the National event and the Southern Classic. Riders will not enter the Southern Classic if it is too close before the Title event. |

You obviously mean Victorian riders wont enter the Southern Classic if it is too close to the titles. Maybe you should move it to earlier in the year maybe at Easter or something so those who have to travel larger distances can have a fair crack at it. Think about it Mt Panorama at Easter used to be the ducks nuts maybe Broadford could take over. Obviously next year is out of the question for several reasons but it is a thought for the future if you want to avoid clashes with other major events and you could just book Easter as far in advance as you wished. Incidentally I have never attended the Southern Classic because I cannot get the required time off to do it and the Nationals in such close proximity to each other and not close enough to do both in the one trip and to me the Nationals are far more important.

Good point Alan, and justified with your strong 3rd at Wanneroo. But it's just semantics for John, he only races within Vic which is fair enough. |

Wrong there been to Sydney and Mt Gambier. It is the Vic. blokes who dont enter, personally I would love to be able to cater for everybody, but it is just not possible. We have looked at moving dates but the calendar is full here with track usage. Even Easter has a big event in SA and this year Broadford has the big extravaganza. I have talked with those who race at the track and they dont really seem to want to race over Easter, it seems to be family, fishing etc time. We have a meeting late Jan, early April, Late May, Mid September then the Southern Classic in October and then the Natioanl Titles in November, normally. The spread is pretty wide and there are Hillclimbs, track days, interclubs and Club events with Preston and Hartwell MCC. So its a busy time for all right through the year. |

Patrick I was talking about racers, not the staff at Broadford. |

At least with the camping available at the Broadford track accomodation is covered. I would love to do the round trip and pick up a few weekends, but I have heard the comments at the Nationals about keeping the bike ok by avioding the Souithern Classic. I see what john is talking about. Seems a pity though, I thought we all want to race anyway. |

At the risk of appearing indelicate, Oldonk, I believe that theory to be crap. The Southern Classic at Broadford this year was a month almost to the day before the nationals, yet almost everybody at Broadford went to the nats and had a blinder because they'd had a weekend riding hard at Broady, including Mandy Beales, Keith Campbell, Rob Phillis. The only Vic riders who avoided Broadford but did ride at Wanneroo were the P5 and P4 Unlimited guys like Rex and a few of his buddies who were in rebuild/repair mode after the nightmare weekend at the Island, where blowups and crashes cut a swathe through the field. I believe far too much emphasis is placed on the fear of a bike expiring due to over-use nowadays, it's a fantasy. If the thing's built well, and the oil is changed regularly, ie a lot, then what's the problem ? My thing ran every lap possible at Broadford, every lap possible at Wanneroo, and will be running every lap possible at Phillip Island. Bloody hell, those who avoided the trophy races at Wanneroo and rode only in the title races on the Sunday had a race mileage of 12 laps... surely that's not excessive, even for the highly-stressed P3 bangers ? Gotta give the oil, the gear, and the bikes more credit, warm them up sympathetically, and get out there and give it to them hard, mate. They'll be right ! |

GD is it not a theory it is emperical facts. I dont know why, it may be because most racers carry out their own maintenance, those you named all have assistance. It maybe they just dont want to go out every weekend.
I guess we are spoiled as well, with potentially about 25 race meeting a year in Victoria. |
