Less than a week to go, and NOBODY has mentioned the Classic !! I'm not even riding this year, and I'm fizzed up : what's up Vics, are you all spoiled rotten or just don't care ? 340 entries this time, the PI crew must be doing SOMETHING right !!

Hey Geoff,

I just stumbled across this forum and saw your post - I hope the jumbo poster we did up is looking good on your wall

We just finished a short video of the 2011 Island Classic.

You can view it here http://blog.sdpics.com/2011-island-classic/

Cheers,
Steve Duggan

Agree with all the above. Like I said at the presentation it is a pity we can't get more track time but I understand the odds are against that with some many entrants (although with nowhere to 'bump up' to the sidecars have much less option for extra track time than those strange two wheeled devices!!). Meantime though the weekend offered its challenges and and excitement. Ours was especially good though because we won the day in our class - and that was very satisfying after trying 7 times over the last 9 years! Then my weekend was topped off nicely when my lovely partner Barbara bought that beautiful big print of us sweeping through Siberia. For those who did not see it (how could you miss it???) the photographers picked me as the subject to demonstrate their photographic capability and I now have a metre (ish) square picture of the green meanie in full flight hanging on the library wall.
It was also fantastic to catch up with all those people who you only see at race meetings and in some cases only at the Island Classic.
Thanks everyone who helped make it a great weekend.

Well I finally got the motor to work ok but as for me, well I still equaled my best time at the island - not good enough.

On the other hand the racing in the "consolation" (does consolation mean most exciting?) class of p5 was fantastic. I had easily the best fun time I have had in years swapping positions with at least four others in one race. At the end of the race it was just the most fantastic feeling. Congrats to Jim Keys and Big Daz for a tremendous ride and also to Ducati Ray and the others. What a blast!!!!!!!

yep a top weekend at the island even with some problems for us the camaraderie amongst the riders was first class and the help we had from others to get us back out there was fantastic . to be there when steve martin reeled of a 1.38 9 was a privilege in it self and to have cam donald come around you in turn one a gear up laying on the tank was special well done to PI group and flaggies etc .

What's up Mick, won't anyone join in your buzz ? Miserable pack of sods on here these days... I for one thought the Classic was a balltearer once again, they're claiming a crowd of just on 20,000 for the three days so as I've mentioned before, the formula is a ripper. Eligibility scrutineers are conspicuous by their absence, lucky really as they'd have had their work cut out over the weekend. I don't think in this case that it matters a great deal, what is important is that big crowds get to see great racing : mission accomplished!
For my own part it was great value to once again interview Graeme Crosby, who was there flogging his book, he gives as good as he gets and still maintains that ratbag element that rounded off his personality with the common touch all those years ago.
Also got a quick pit chat on the mike with Steve Martin, Cameron Donald, Jeremy McWilliams and Ryan Farquhar, all pros but more importantly still grooving out on what made them go bike racing in the first place, passion !
Special mention to a star from yesteryear who has snuck under the radar but will have a big impact should his comeback continue aboard the Bert Flood AJR 350, welcome back John Pace. Geoff and Craig had a good one again on the big green meanie, Oldkwak not such a goodie but chased hard all weekend. In all, lots of fun, well done all.
Cheers GD

woohoo ,top weekend all round, weather gods must like historic racing, puuurrrfect, well apart from a bit of wind, typical, loose 2 teeth off back sprocket, then wind changes to up the straight!!,good action racing, some unfortunate incidents, don't think some mixed eras is such a bright idea,ie Tz versus Penny,,International races were pretty awesome, nice attitudes from all the higher echelon of our sport, but i guess racings racing,no matter what level, good to catch up with a few familar faces, few quiet beers etc,but that plan didn't bear fruition sat nite,1st race sun,red lite went out !,so did my brain,MV dropped ex valve exiting siberia, duh, either a tacho that works,or rev limiter's the go next time ,see yas all next time,

Poo ! Quite a weekend out, mate. Not to worry, get 'em back out there.

The mystery guest is now revealed as Shawn Giles, subbing for Craig McMartin on one of the Irving Vincents...

I have just put the outfit in the trailer and serviced the old blue bus. Going to play at Old Tailem Town Wednesday morning and then hotfoot it eastwards... all the while hoping that our feet don't get too wet over there... Fizzed up... Good term Glenn. Can't wait...
